Service Overview

E-commerce Platform Migration moves one store between WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento or Adobe Commerce, Wix, and Squarespace. Discovery inventories what the source platform holds and can export, including products, variants, options, images, categories, customers, orders, reviews, discounts, gift cards, content pages, and blog posts, then maps each to the target platform's model. Data the source cannot export, or the target cannot represent, such as customer passwords, certain order history, or app-specific fields, is flagged in the plan rather than promised. We build a URL redirect map, carry over titles, meta descriptions, and supported structured data, re-check payment, tax, shipping, and notification settings with the client, and test on staging. Cutover follows an agreed plan with a content freeze, final delta import, DNS steps, and a rollback path. After launch we monitor Search Console for crawl errors and redirect issues during the support period. The client supplies admin access, approvals, and tax and payment decisions. Rankings, traffic, and revenue cannot be guaranteed.

Key Deliverables

  • โœ“Source data inventory and export assessment listing what can, cannot, or can only partly be migrated
  • โœ“Field mapping for products, variants, categories, customers, orders, and content with client-approved rules
  • โœ“URL redirect map covering products, categories, content, and other priority URLs, tested after launch
  • โœ“Carry-over of titles, meta descriptions, image alternative text, and supported structured data where the target allows
  • โœ“Staging build with QA record for catalogue, search, cart, checkout, payment, tax, shipping, emails, and accounts
  • โœ“Cutover and rollback plan, launch checks, and post-launch Search Console monitoring notes

Expected Business Outcomes

  • A store moved to the new platform against an agreed data and URL plan
  • Known data gaps documented and agreed before launch rather than discovered after
  • A tested redirect map and launch record to support search visibility during the move

Ideal For

Merchants moving between WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento or Adobe Commerce, Wix, and SquarespaceStores with existing search traffic and URLs worth preservingTeams able to approve data rules, freeze content during cutover, and confirm tax and payment settings

Our Delivery Process

1

Inventory and assess

Audit source data, URLs, apps or extensions, integrations, SEO metadata, and traffic; test exports and identify data that cannot be moved or needs rework.

2

Map and plan

Agree field mapping, URL structure, redirect rules, target apps, theme approach, payment and tax configuration owners, cutover date, freeze period, and rollback triggers.

3

Build and migrate to staging

Set up the target store, import data, apply the theme or design scope, configure required apps, and load redirects.

4

QA

Check record counts and samples, variants, prices, images, search, cart, checkout, test orders, taxes, shipping, emails, accounts, redirects, metadata, and structured data; the client approves before cutover.

5

Cutover and monitor

Freeze changes, run a final delta import, switch DNS, run launch checks, submit sitemaps, and monitor Search Console and redirects during the support period, with rollback available if agreed triggers occur.

Checkout and taxPayment gateways, tax settings, shipping, and notifications re-configured and tested; the client confirms tax and payment decisions with its advisers and providers
Launch controlsStaging environment, content freeze, delta import, DNS change plan, launch checklist, and agreed rollback path
ExclusionsRanking or traffic guarantees, full redesign, custom app or extension rebuilds, ERP or marketplace integrations, data cleanup beyond mapping rules, and ongoing SEO unless scoped

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions regarding deliverables, process, and billing.

Will we lose search rankings after migrating?

โ–ผ

Migrations carry ranking risk and some fluctuation is common. A redirect map, metadata carry-over, and Search Console monitoring reduce avoidable losses, but rankings and traffic also depend on the new platform, content, competition, and search engines, so they cannot be guaranteed.

Can all our data be moved?

โ–ผ

Not always. Each platform exports and imports different data. Customer passwords usually cannot be transferred, and some order history, reviews, gift cards, subscriptions, or app-specific fields may be partial or impossible. We flag these in the inventory before you commit.

Will customers need to reset their passwords?

โ–ผ

Usually yes, because passwords are stored in encrypted forms that platforms do not share. Target platforms typically offer account invitation or activation emails, which we can plan into the launch communication.

How are old URLs handled?

โ–ผ

We build a redirect map from old product, category, and content URLs to their new equivalents and load it as 301 redirects. Platforms such as Shopify use fixed URL prefixes, so some URLs will change and need redirects.

Will the store be offline during the move?

โ–ผ

The new store is built and tested on staging while the old one keeps trading. At cutover there is a content and order freeze, a final data sync, and a DNS switch. The plan names the window and how orders during it are handled.

What if something goes wrong at launch?

โ–ผ

The cutover plan includes agreed rollback triggers and steps to point the domain back to the old store while issues are fixed, provided the old store is kept active until sign-off.

Are payment and tax settings copied across?

โ–ผ

Settings cannot be copied directly between platforms. We re-configure gateways, taxes, and shipping on the target and test them with test orders. You confirm tax rules with your accountant and gateway eligibility with the provider.

Is a redesign included?

โ–ผ

Only as scoped. Many migrations use an existing theme adapted to your brand. A custom design, new features, or rebuilding apps and extensions are quoted separately.

Why is migration quoted rather than priced upfront?

โ–ผ

Effort depends on catalogue size, variants, customer and order volume, data quality, apps and integrations, URL count, and platform pair. The data inventory defines these before a proposal is issued.

What happens after launch?

โ–ผ

During the support period we check redirects, crawl errors, and indexing signals in Search Console and fix in-scope defects. Ongoing SEO, new features, and store management are separate.
